Even when you recycle, aluminium coffee pills are a massive source of waste and contamination. There’s excellent news and problem when it pertains to aluminium. It’s mostly bad news. The good news is that, when recycled, aluminium production just requires a little fraction of the energy needed.
That’s where the fun ends and the science starts …
Secondly, second of all production uses up a lot of energy and natural resources. For those interested in the science behind it, aluminium starts life as aluminium oxide (in a mix of a number of other compounds known as Bauxite) when it is very first mined from the ground. This is since the strength of the chemical bond between aluminium and oxygen is considerably more powerful than the same bond between oxygen and other metals.
At that temperature, a great deal of aluminium carbide and vapour are also made. By-products from the aluminium production procedure can be exceptionally harmful to health, especially in kids.

Some more contemporary processes (such as the Hall-Heroult procedure) can use half that temperature, but still usually lose around 50% of the energy used as low grade heat. This is due in part to the truth that the compounds required to liquify the oxide are so corrosive that there no useful way to keep the heat in. There are also great difficulties in the technology used in the Hall-Heroult process that lead to big energy losses.
Another issue comes up when you think about the fact that coffee pills are not made of simply aluminium. They’re made with a mix of products, consisting of the paint used and a thin plastic lining inside the capsule. This means that more chemicals and more energy need to be utilized to separate the materials before they can be recycled, causing more waste and more contamination.
The truth that the pills are infected with organic waste once they’ve been utilized means that there are nearly no community recycling facilities that can process them!
The usage of gratuitous quantities of raw materials (the mining of which can cause lasting, in some cases irreparable damage to the environment) and energy is no longer needed to support our caffeine habits. They use plant-derived materials and the best coffee in the products.
They, Moving Beans, are a company that has been providing compostable Nespresso pods for a long time, with more info at Moving Beans. Do read a pertinent blog on compostable Nespresso pods. They were the first to sell truly sustainable Nespresso coffee capsules.
